Problem

A science-show host needed a streaming-platform-style site that read as broadcast quality, not a generic creator template. The brand had to feel late-night-talk-show: warm neon, brick wall, intimacy, but with science cred.

Approach

Custom site with a neon-sign hero on real brick, and a 3D CubeRift view (cube panels, walkable in WASD or orbit) for visitors who want to explore the show as a space, not a feed.

Process

  • Brand mark: hand-built neon-sign logo with cyan atom + red-orange tubes + 4 electrons.
  • Hero: 2D image-to-3D pipeline (Meshy 6) producing a real GLB the user can rotate.
  • Asset pipeline pinned in vendor/3d-pipeline so the GLB can always be regenerated from committed inputs.
  • /3d view: TunnelForge-derived cube hero panel, FPS + orbit controls, ambient effects.
  • Astro 5 + React + Cloudflare Pages.

Outcomes

Pre-launch. Major lesson: 3D asset pipelines need committed source GLBs + bake scripts in repo, not /tmp working files. Lost a working build to a /tmp wipe; rebuilt the pipeline so any future regeneration is one npm script.
